The Transformation of the Human in the Posthuman Age: Cultural Diplomacy as a Bridge between Culture, International Relations, and Global Cooperation
The transition to the posthuman era, driven by artificial intelligence, biotechnology, digital transformation, and emerging technologies, is fundamentally redefining not only the concept of the human being but also the ways in which nations, societies, and civilizations interact. Within this rapidly evolving global landscape, cultural diplomacy has emerged as one of the most effective instruments for fostering peaceful coexistence, mutual understanding, intercultural dialogue, and sustainable international cooperation.
This paper examines the strategic role of culture as a pillar of soft power, demonstrating how cultural heritage, historical memory, education, science, and cultural exchange can serve as powerful diplomatic tools for strengthening trust, promoting dialogue, and building resilient partnerships among nations, even in times of geopolitical uncertainty.
Particular emphasis is placed on the practical dimension of cultural diplomacy through the initiatives of Kyriakos Maridakis, whose work is presented as a case study illustrating how culture can function as a catalyst for international engagement. Through initiatives that promote intercultural dialogue and collaboration among academic institutions, international organizations, diaspora communities, and public institutions, these efforts seek to build meaningful bridges between peoples and cultures, advancing the universal values of peace, mutual respect, understanding, and international solidarity.
The paper argues that, in the posthuman age, genuine progress will not be measured solely by technological innovation but by humanity’s capacity to preserve its cultural identity, ethical values, and shared human heritage. In this context, cultural diplomacy becomes a transformative force that connects civilizations, strengthens international relations, and promotes global cooperation, demonstrating that culture remains one of the most enduring foundations for peace, sustainable development, and a more inclusive international order.
