Emotional Intelligence and Its Necessity in the Era of Intelligent Machines: A Critical Competence for Human–Machine Interaction
The rapid integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and intelligent machines into modern society is fundamentally reshaping human interaction, professional environments, and decision-making processes. As autonomous and semi-autonomous systems increasingly participate in critical activities across sectors such as education, healthcare, transportation, defense, customer services, and industry, the role of human emotional and social competencies becomes more important than ever. In this context, Emotional Intelligence (EI) emerges as a critical capability for users, operators, managers, and decision-makers interacting with intelligent machines.
This presentation explores the growing necessity of Emotional Intelligence in the age of intelligent technologies, emphasizing its role in enabling effective, ethical, and psychologically balanced human–machine interaction. It examines how skills such as self-awareness, emotional regulation, empathy, communication, adaptability, and social understanding contribute to safer and more responsible use of AI-driven systems.
Particular attention is given to the risks associated with excessive technological dependence, reduced interpersonal interaction, cognitive overload, and the potential erosion of human-centered judgment in highly automated environments.
