Humanity reinvented: a change of era, part I

AI is a supersonic tsunami. It breaks conventional barriers compressing time and effort, while scaling immense volumes of data into an unstoppable wave of change. Understanding these dual qualities helps us define how we harness technology while failure risks us being swept away by it.

Humanity has been undergoing minor or major biotechnological changes for millions of years. Everything natural changes in time and survival of a species depends on its ability to adapt. In this sense, technology should not be considered, in and of itself, as a force antagonistic to humanity; it is a profoundly human reality, linked to the autonomy and freedom of man.

Therefore, technological progress must never be measured solely by computational efficiency or scientific innovation but by the values it advances. Its real measure lies with its ability to improve human lives and benefit all communities, while safeguarding the moral principles that enabled human flourishing. Every algorithm, every genomic discovery, every predictive model, and every regulatory framework should contribute to one overarching objective—the protection and promotion of human dignity.

We are living through a change of era, not just an era of change. Building a world in which everyone can flourish requires a steadfast moral compass, shared responsibility and the resolve to turn our shared values into meaningful action. Whether biotechnological ‘enhancements’ of the world around us and ourselves become a step forward in human evolution and a metamorphosis of humankind into a more sophisticated species with the ability to create other (sub)species modelled after itself or if they mark the beginning of the end of the human era, remains to be seen.
