Dr. Nikolaos S. Thomaidis

Prof. of Analytical Chemistry, Dep. of Chemistry, National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, Athens, Greece

Professor Nikolaos Thomaidis is specialized in Analytical Chemistry and Mass Spectrometry, with an emphasis in environmental analytical chemistry of emerging contaminants and the full characterization of organic fraction of environmental samples. He leads Trace Analysis and Mass Spectrometry (TrAMS) research group whose current research interest focus on the development of cutting-edge HRMS methodologies and data processing chemometric tools, following targeted and untargeted workflows.

These methodologies have been implemented in numerous environmental monitoring studies worldwide, including the Joint Danube Survey and the monitoring of the Black Sea and applied in important European projects as LIFE Apex, NTS-Exposure, TerraChem and wastewater epidemiology studies (EU-WISH). Since 2020, Prof.

Thomaidis is a member of the National Wastewater Surveillance Network, coordinated by the Hellenic National Public Health Organization (EODY), providing support and data on the determination of viruses (SARS-Cov-2, influenza, RSV) and the detection of biomarkers related to human health and lifestyle.

He has extensive experience in coordinating and supervising research projects with both national and European funding. He has a constant research activity over the last 30 years in Analytical Chemistry with, mainly, environmental and food applications, summarized in >400 articles, 19 book chapters, receiving >20,000 citations and 80-h-index.
